I did it.  And rotated the air cleaner to take air from the incomming 
air stream...a little cooler.

I has caused no harm.  Do scientific way of measuring the results.  But 
theorically it has three benifits.

1.  Cooler air is more dense and will expand more when it is in the 
combustion chamber.

2.  The air stream has a more of a chance to straiten out.

3.  Something to talk about at cruise nights.
