<VV> CORVAIR COOLER EXHAUSTS

Hi everyone,

I am currently completing the reassembly of my 110hp Corvair engine in preparation for its reinstallation into the cars repainted body when the body comes back from my painter.

During this reassembly of the engine I considered 'jet hot coating' the exhaust manifolds to make them look nice and also get them to run cooler. I elected not to do this because the running cooler bit might have effected the operation of the thermostats.

However it seems to me that 'jet hot coating' the full length of the single exhaust tail pipe and the body of the muffler might be a good idea as it would look nice and also reduce the temperature of the muffler / tail pipe which run quite close the one of the rocker covers. This rocker cover does of course have temp shield, but reducing the heat in the tail pipe / muffler seems like a good idea to me.

In Australia we call this finish 'jet hot coating'. It's available in a range of colours (I would select silver) but the benefits are it looks good and displaces the heat from the exhaust very well.

I have this jet hot coating on the exhaust manifolds on my 1983 Cadillacs HT4100 V8 engine and the results are considerably lower under hood engine temperatures. I have to believe this would be a good thing for Corvairs.

Any comments, am I right or wrong?

Regards from Australia
