Will I have to pull the engine in order to do this or is there an easier
way.

Welcome to Corvairdom and Virtual Vairs. I don't know of any cars that
can have a torque converter removed without splitting the engine and
transmission (though Bill Elliott may have some exotic car that can). Because this
repair and Corvairs are new to you I would take Daniel's advice to heart
and check with the local Corvair guys. If you don't get any answers to your
email in the next couple of days let VV know again and we'll find someone
for you. They can also assist you with carb balancing and a general
tuneup. And the manual making good reading at night.

Best Wishes,
