It is much quicker and will save the drums from damage if you cut the heads off of the anchor pins ( a large pair of cutting pliers works well ) and then pry the the drum upward from the bottom until the springs pop off.

I have done the same on a 65 car with all wheels frozen, Big hammer...ummm
good! Beat! Beat! I was beat afterward and it was a hot muggy evening. Cold
beer never tasted so good!
