Exactly why do they have to keep the speed up the 200mph range?

IMO NASCAR was a lot more exciting back when they ran often badly mismatched 
but closer to stock entries at much lower speeds... it also impacted the 
production cars that manufacturers offered.

With "Formula" cars of restricted technology, it's not very exciting to 
watch, it doesn't advance automotive technology, and it doesn't have an 
effect on production cars... any deeper than a paint scheme anyway.
