Basically, to keep up with the fans' expectations, now that those just-below 
200mph
speeds have become commonplace. I would think if they mandated a NASCAR
car formula that kept speeds down around 150mph on the big tracks, over half 
their
viewership would go somewhere else. I know I would....

After all, Talledega and Daytona were built to showcase racing at these 
speeds.
To run that much lower, doesn't even justify the tracks' existence, let 
alone the angle
of the banking.

Remember, we are all old guys and no matter what we can remember from 30-40
years ago, it has no meaning to today's racing audiences.
