personally never seen a black one but agree that the quality of the silver is well.... eh.
I've bead blasted this mag fan already and it oxidized very rapidly; may have to do it again before sending it out for coating.
I'm sure mag fans in 69 were not powder coated, so I wonder if it should be just painted or plated? And if plated, what kind of plating?

Chris, the mag fan was either silver or black. I've seen both. In my opinion the black were a much better casting (smother) some of the silver ones coiuld be quite rough (different vendors?) Th black was sort of a semi gloss.

Hi guys:
I am preparing to send out a pile of parts from my winter 1969 engine detailing project for cadmium plating.
My question is what items were plated originally when the car was built?
I have all the screws, nuts, bolts, washers, the carb balance tube, the connecting throttle bar, and the oil cap so far.
Was considering the engine lid prop rod and the magnesium fan too, but am not sure if that was plated or not. Can any of you provide some insight please. I want to do once and do it right.
I have three options for cadmium plating, silver cadmium plating and gold cadmium plating. I would imagine I seek either cadmium or silver, I don't know which one is correct.
Thanks!
