In the transmission, however, the gears are only running- and thus dipping
into the lube to distribute said lube to all of the bearings and bushings-
when the engine is running, and the clutch is engaged. Well, unless you
tow with the car in gear (high gear would be best) and have someone hold the
clutch down the whole time!

Keith - I had a friend flat-tow my autocrosser behind his Southwind
motorhome from San Jose, CA to the Williamsburg, VA Convention in 1994 - Where my
daughter raced it - and won. And then he towed it back home for me. No ill
effects. What I asked him to do, though, (since he had his teenage son with
him) was to, every 500 miles or so, put his kid in he car and tow it a
couple of hundred feet. (In gear with the clutch depressed) Usually at a gas
stop or where they were stopped for the night. He said he pretty much did
this. That seems to have provided the needed lubrication. Perhaps a
straight-through tow across-country would do it harm, I don't know.
