I have a neighborhood friend that is planning on making one of the last shuttle launches ... he might give up a Hawaii vacation to get there. If he's crazy enough to do that, just to be able to say he watched a shuttle launch, then I'm crazy enough to go with him.

The Space Shuttle's SRBs are the ONLY single chamber engine to date to exceed the thrust of the Saturn V's fabled F1 engines, making the SRBs the most powerful rocket motor to date. The Saturn V's F1 is the most powerful single chamber liquid fueled engine to date, with the Russian RD-180 by NPO_Energomash being more powerful than the F1, but it's a 4 chamber engine.

I saw Apollo 15 take off when I was a kid. The most damn violent thing I've EVER witnessed first hand!!
