People are already doing this. Seen one.

Uh... they also include the engine, frame, suspension, etc. ;) I
also saw a beautiful (relatively speaking) 1960 Edsel sitting on a
late model Lincoln Towncar chassis/running gear. A buddy has a '41
Chevy coupe that's sitting on a '70 Impala frame w/running gear, has
about 10 inches cut out of the middle of the frame, even kept the
Impala steering column/wheel. Drives it daily.

My favorite HAS to be the Ford Taurus sedan not far from my
workplace, sitting on a Ford 4WD truck frame. To be charitable,
another guy here in town has a '70 El Camino on a Chevy 4WD truck
frame, daily driven as well.

...and, our local Corsa chapter Prez is in the process of putting a
'48 Chevy pickup body on a Chevy S-10 frame with SBC 350 and Powerglide.

tony.. wondering when I'll be expected to get drafted to do paint prep

PS: part of the cab sheet metal off that same donor S-10 is now
serving (with some serious hammer-dolly mods) as the trunk bottom of
the '67 500 coupe; seldom does anything go to waste round here
