<VV> defroster "fuzz dispensers"

A member recently posted that his defroster was like a fuzz  dispenser. 
Mine was too until i removed the heater box and cleaned out the  insulation 
within it, and blew out the heater hoses from front to back with the  back end 
of a shop vacume cleaner.  What is the insulation made of?   Is it the now 
dreaded asbestos?  I bet Nader never raised a eyebrow on that  question.
