<VV> Ignition : Porsche vs. Corvair firing order

Hmmm... Thanks for the info -

Porsche doesn't seem to be as well-balanced in its firing order as the Vair, being "corner, corner, corner, middle, corner, corner," as opposed to the Corvair's "corner, middle, corner, corner, middle, corner" ?

Corvair looks like a good doubles tennis game than does the Porsche, but I guess there is something to it on the order of "form follows function" ?

Assuming the cylinders are numbered the same, on any horizontally opposed 6 cylinder engine, there are only 2 possible firing orders, one being the reverse of the other.

  For a 911, here's the cylinder numbering:

  And the firing order is 1, 6, 2, 4, 3, 5.

Right !

If you're used to inline-6 engines, that would have made sense, but not on

Corvair !

Does Porsche use the same firing order ?

I makes more sense when the viewed from above:

http://www.yourbuyersinn.com/Cars/Corvair/FiringOrderComparison.htm

In this one I colorized the hard to follow in black-and-white manual

drawings :

http://www.yourbuyersinn.com/Cars/Corvair/1965CorvairManual6Y-19.htm

Here I tried to put it all together a while back to see ignition, starter,

etc all in one place :

http://www.yourbuyersinn.com/Cars/Corvair/CorvairIgnitionWiring.htm

I'd really appreciate it if you guys could proof read it for me to make sure

it's right ?

It was pulled apart when I first did it, but maybe it needs to be updated ?

Hope it helps and thanks for any input you can afford me !

Charlie

I'd like to thank the great folks who responded to my ignition problem. One

thing I neglected, makes me embarrassed, but...

The left bank of cylinders turns out to be 2-4-6, NOT!!! 4-5-6. And the

right

side is 1-3-5, NOT!!! 1-2-3...

You'd think it's pretty obvious, since the info is stamped on top of the

turkey

roaster....

Lesson learned. Sometimes it's the simple things that you can slip up when

doing a complex task. As I was scratching my head looking at the engine bay,

it

suddenly hit me. I re-did the wires, and she started up the first time...

Imagine installing A/C in, around, and under the car when it's 100 degrees

outside. There some sort of irony there...
