OK, The small plate that covers the oil cooler fins, a little hatch panel on 
the trailing edge of the top shroud ?

Just wasn't familiar with the name !

Left side of engine directly behind the oill cooler there is a rectangular
opening. this is to recirculate warm air for winter driving. In summer you 
cover
the hole with a plate. check the manual

What is this "summer air recirc plate " you mention ?

Being in SoCal, I think this is (even more) important ?
