Down here in the South, Publix Grocery chain started an advertising 
campaign in their food section ads which allowed the Publix shopper 
to spend $25 and receive with a store coupon the ability to purchase 
a $50 BP gas card for $40. Now obviously that is a super offer and it 
was so well received in my area they gave out of card blanks in both 
$50 and $25 denominations and had to issue rain checks good for 
thirty days. When the offer was still going on I purchased during 
normal grocery shopping 5 BP $50 gift cards
and used them to offset my gas bill both at the SECC autocross and at 
the Queen City Corvair show in Charlotte. Within a week after the Oil 
Rig fire in the Gulf there were no additional coupon offers and 
Publix timing was very well chosen to disassociate themselves with 
BP's eco-unfriendly greed and disceptions and even before the 
scathing indictment of BP's attitude as presented on 60 Minutes by 
the surviving drill rig technician.
