No PG parts in the Chaparral. He had a Chevrolet-built  multi-speed (the 
number grew over time!) gearbox with a tight torque converter  ahead of it. 
The "automatic" is what allowed Hall to use the adjustable rear  wing. The 
driver used his left foot to actuate it. If they had a clutch to  operate, they 
couldn't have used it. They still had to manually select  gears. So - If 
you have a driver's-foot-adjustable rear wing, run an  automatic. Similar to a 
drag race car, Hall always had an abundance of Torque  and fantastic brakes 
to overcome the lack of engine braking.
