<VV> Early Padded Dash install

I am getting ready to do my second Early model padded dash replacement. I had problems on the first one trying to position it perfectly before the glue stuck. 

Who has tried using soapy water to give you a short adjustment time before the glue bites, per Elvis King's August 2007 Communique Tech Tip? How did it work?

Any other tips?
