Very true ... but, they are not all alike!  Shop around for the most co operative hotel / motel in your area.  Then encourage everyone, including your own locals, to stay at the host hotel.  It is also most important to settle all details in advance.  It works in the favor of the group to let the hotel know your activity could become an annual event.
