<VV> How MUCH Phosphorus and Zink?

Greetings,

I have been doing alot of research on oil lately.  The more I read, the more confused I was for a while.  The light finally came on after reading enough of the history of oil production. I have read the AMSOIL website and many others.  A specific brand and grade may change with time (read that less Zinc and Phosphorus) to keep catalytic converters clean.  They are desighned to answer the requirements of the current car market.

I have been made aware of what is for me a "local" oil from Pennsylvania.  I was suspicious at first but after further review of many sources and the Brad Penn web site (see below) I see that it is exactly what all the oil experts are recommending.  It is a good base crude oil (low aromatic PA crude), partial synthetic for high slipperiness and high ZDDP:

" The Penn-Grade 1 ® oils “typical” 1,500 ppm Zinc (Zn) and 1340-1400 ppm Phosphorus (P) content provide the needed anti-wear protection to critical engine parts, such as piston/cylinder walls, roller cams under heavy valve spring pressure and especially those that employ a solid “flat tappet” type system." (from the Brad Penn web site).

It seems that Brad Penn is formulated specifically for the "flat tappet" crowd, just like us corvair folks.  Their entire refinery is designed to answer our specific needs, they have no interest in fulfilling the general current technology oil market.  It is also readily available on Amazon.com for $4.59 per quart (plus shipping).  It may be available from a local oil distributor for much less (no shipping).  I can get it for $4.20/Qt for the 12 quart case if I drive 30 minutes to the distributor (see Brad Penn web site for distributor info).

I probably sound like a commercial but many after market cam makers endorse Brad Penn oils for use with their cam shafts.

Good luck with your oil  decision, I am now comfortable with mine.
