Thanks every one for your input. I should have said "pulled out" rather than "backed out". I had torn down the motor (in the car) for cylinders/rings/bearings. When I attempted to torque #2 top studs to 30lbs, I heard a loud bang/twang and now the stud will only take 6 pounds before it starts pulling out.  It's still a "bare" motor. So,I'll  just have to drop the drive train on a cart and roll the whole thing out from under the car.
