<VV> Repro battery: vintage looks/mod. inside?

This has not been a concern of mine, so I've not really thought about it. 
BUT, aren't there some generic looking (very similar in looks to original 
GM/Delco) batteries still available?  Isn't the Delco sign on the side of 
the original battery removable - if careful?
