<VV> Oversize brake shoes

It seems every time I install new brake shoes they are too big (drum won't fit). 
Most times in the past, I ended up grinding the shoe where it contacts the top 
anchor pin. This time, I shortened the adjusters about 1/10" by grinding the 
barrel and the screw. Does anyone else have this problem? And what has been your 
preferred solution?

  The shoes need to be ARC'd...  a "used to be common practice!"
