Ron -- go get a new brake line and then split a short section of it 
lengthwise and open it up -- that copper.

Or maybe there is a website that details the construction of brake lines 
-- I believe the coating is corrosion protection.

They aren't "just" steel lines, but have multiple coatings, inside and 
out.  Mil-Spec is even more complex (and expensive).
