<VV> slow speedo

Good info, thanks. Another way to check, does the odometer turn over exactly 1.0 miles through the same marked mile? If it does, the gear is probably correct. Every once in a while, the speedo magnet will lose some strength (but not in my experience) causing a low speed. However a good speedo shop (are any of those still around?) can fix that.

Tires: 185/80-13 KingStar radials from Les Schwab in Winnemucca, NV (good story
here)
Speedo gear: seems unlikely the gears have been changed but I am not the
original owner; it is definitely an original three-speed car.
Speed test: has been timed using mile markers and paced by known good speedo
cars

Yup, it reads low...ned.
