<VV> No brochures-no corvair

I'm an American. As an American, I deserve to buy the best vehicle that
fits my needs.

These are the vehicles I've driven over the years:

1. 1962 Corvair 700 coupe.(20727Wxxxxxx) (Dad's car, we only could afford
one car in those days.) Got the odometer to 94,000 miles. Did a lot of
repair on the floor pans over the years. Sold it to a Georgetown collector
as a parts car. We had hoped to hold on to it until it could be my first
car.

2. 1972 Toyota Carina. TA12-xxxxxx We were shocked at the difference in
workmanship in some parts of this car. This was the family car and
eventually became my first car that I actually 'owned'. (Dad held the title
still, since I was under 21.)

3. 1979 Toyota Corolla 1200 2-door sedan(KE30-xxxxxx. The bottom of the
line, purchased new, but I still got 106,000 miles out of it.

4. and 5. 1980 Toyota Corolla SR-5 liftback. Both TE72-xxxxxxx Actually 2.
A green one, that I managed to total on a WPA bridge on the Old 78 near
Fulton MS and a red one that I drove to 200,000 miles.

6. 1995 Chevy S-10. 1GCCS1445xxxxxxxxx Again, the bottom of the line and
purchased new. Sold it after 4 years because it started nickel and diming me
to death with repairs before 50,000 miles.

7. 1993 Toyota Corolla 1NXAE09Exxxxxxxxx 3d owner, bought at 72,000, sold
at 230,000. (Second owner was my sister, her first car. First owner was the
Avis rental office out of O'hare. It still had the AVIS sticker inside the
gas door when my sister bought it.)

7.5 1995 Previa JT3, but my brother is currently using and driving that one
and has done most of the driving over the years. We bought it when we were
sharing a house and needed a larger vehicle for things.

8. 1995 Toyota Corolla,1NXAE04Bxxxxxxxxx current ride, purchased at 90,000.
Now has 140,000. Again this one is the bottom of the line so I don't expect
as much as we got out of the 93 DX. Both the 93 and 95 were made at the
NUMMI plant in Fremont California. The 95 is more like the Prism of that
year.

I neither want nor need a Cadillac nor a Camry. I have no wife, no
children, no pets. If I wanted to get a car to impress the ladies, I'd get
either a chauffeur driven Mercedes prewar 770 with number plate 1A-148653,
or a 60's era Rolls Royce, or an MG-TD, or get a Hebmuller or a EM Corvair
convertible with 4 on the floor.

I actually got to 'drive' the predecessor to the Corvair, a 1963 Chevy II
300 (Nova was a 400 in those days) 2 door sedan (30411Wxxxxxx) 194 3 on the
tree, automatic choke. My job as eldest son was to go out in the winter and
make sure that I had the 'tree' in neutral, the hand brake on, and start her
up and warm her up until she would run on her own. The automatic choke did
not keep her running when the weather was cold. Didn't get to actually move
the car. Had the same duties on the Corvair the next winter, we only had a
carport both years. The following winter, we had an actual garage, so
starting/running the Corvair was a problem only when we had to park her out
on the street occasionally.

Another way to cut costs I guess - especially when you are about to fold
anyway. Of course GM has absolutely NOTHING that I would consider buying
anyway so no loss for me. The only America made product I would consider
buying right now would be a Ford heavy duty truck. I haven't bought
anything but an import in years due to the poor quality of my previous
American made cars. They continued to push crap out the door and expected my
American loyalty to cause me to buy them anyway. Sorry but I am as American
as anyone but I will not buy crap just because it is built here.
