Wheel cylinders on Corvairs are often similar (very similar) to the 
cylinders for other GM vehicles -- except for the threads for the brake 
hose.  Then, if you try to change hoses, you find the other end is for a 
different sized steel line. So, since you need new lines anyway, you 
replace them, only to find you can't find a master cylinder that fits 
both the lines and the Corvair chassis. 

Moral:  Easier to buy from a vendor.

But yes, during the years of Corvair production, one size brake was 
nearly identical to every other GM brake of that same size.  This 
philosophy, not exclusive to GM, is one of the very practical limits on 
the functional load carrying (and stopping) capacity of small trucks of 
the era.
