Must depend on where you grew up.
In the Buffalo NY area, many years ago there was a guy who did that to every
one that crossed his path.
Many feel he ruined them with the modification.
I think there is one left in existence in the area floating around.

There was one such modified Late kicking around the Toledo area a few years
back.  Decent job, but hardly worth the effort/money if you asked me.  It
tended to be a negative and a "deal-killer" when a friend was trying to
broker a sale...assuming the potential buyer actually noticed (more than one
didn't!).
