Thank you to all who responded to my axle question.  Now, I guess part of my original message got lost or something.  the drive train in question is a 1965 110/POWERGLIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After your post, Bob, I went and double checked the shop manual again.  You are absolutely right, except for the fact that in the axle section it plainly states 4 1/2 pints.  It doesn't say anything about manual or automatic.  It just says capacitiy----4 1/2 pints.

LIke i said, it all came puking back out all over me at about 3.75 pints.  Also, the diff was bone dry, having been removed for a blown seal.

So, I just set the car level, pulled the fill plug and let the excess run out into a drain pan.  Now,  the dip-stick reads exactly half way between the add and full marks.

Anyway, this whole thing is a little strange.  I'm suprised no one noticed it before.

Thoughts or comments please.        Thank you.
