There is some testing you can do before pulling the head apart.  Set the head with the combustion chamber up and with the spark plug installed fill the chamber with a thin liquid.  By watching the ports you should be able to find the leaking valve pretty quickly.

Before you took the head off you also could have put #3 on top dead center and fed about 20 psi into the cylinder thru the sparkplug hole and listened for the air leak, then could have done the same test with the rockers loosened up completely to check for a valve adjustment problem.
