From what I've found, you don't want to turn the RPMs too high, but you do want to load it to get the rings to seat.  Babying it isn't really the best strategy.  If you're past the cam break in period I'd keep it under 4000 at first, but give it some full throttle runs to put pressure on the rings.  Also take care that it doesn't detonate.
