Hi Eric and welcome,
The oil cap on your car may be original but it has definately been modified. Some people have modified their caps to keep small amounts of oil, thrown up by the oil slinger, from appearing on the top of the engine (myself included). But nothing I have seen are like yours. I noticed your engine does not have a PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system. I guess if you look under the engine on the right hand side in the middle you will find a "roaddraft" tube. I am not sure that is the way to go but I know it was stock equipment back in the day. Anyone know what year the PCV system was made standard equipment on Corvairs? Are there advantages to installing a PCV system to replace the roaddraft tube? I heard the PCV system on the earlies were at 1 time a factory option before it became standard equipment.

>Hello,
>  Here is a photo of my engine compartment. You can see the valve on the cap. I took the car out for a 80 mile trip today and did not seem to have any major engine trouble. No  weird smoke, plenty of power no weird noises. Or should I say nothing that sounded out of place. The gas pedal vibrated some. I know I have a leak or something that drips on the driveway but does not seem to smoke at least not much. The transmission did not down shift when I floored the gas pedal.I am sure someone has worked on this engine but can not find out what was done.
