<VV> Steering box grease cocktail - How much ?

Dale,

Now that is a very good question !

I did not actually measure it, but estimated the amount that can be seen in
the picture, in about a 6" dish that is about 2" deep, which I just happened
to have handy.

The green grease is about a half tube, and with the 90-140 W oil, it filled
it to the brim.

If someone has an empty box (maybe Clark's ?), they can fill it with
something and measure it's volume.

I've heard conflicting reports on whether to "fill it to the brim" or leave
some "breathing room" when filling it.

I have it on good authority to NOT use a pressure gun to fill it though.

Another important point that was made is to make it thin enough to
lubricate, and thick enough not to leak past the seals.

I made mine about 60:40 grease to oil, which may be a bit too thin, or else
I have a bad top wormshaft seal, since it leaked a tiny bit out of that
seal, but seems to have stopped (before installing the box in the car).

This is the only one I've done, and it has al been "fly by wire" ( the
"wire" being Seth Emerson and VV) , so take it all with a grain of salt.

I will include any results or problems as I encounter them on this page :
