Gents, there are fewer additives in the fuel today so the plugs burn
cleaner, unless there is a problem with oil use in your engine.  As a
aircraft mechanic who is used to lead in the gasolines, even the 100
low lead is high in lead today, the spark plug cleaner is an absolute
necessity and I cleaned the aircraft plugs every 100 hours of
operation. However, on automotive plugs where no lead gas is used,
cleaning is not needed at all, or not very often.

It helps to have the correct heat range plug, too. Mark Durham
