Just an afterthought. Do you have the timing retarded to the point
that it takes opening the throttle plates up more than normal to get
the engine to idle? What do you get when you set idle mixture? Does
the engine respond and peak at around 1 - 1.5 turns out? If it
continues to increase in rpm as you screw in to zero, you have blocked
idle circuits which will cause you to have to idle faster and engage
the vacuum.
