The old Chevy stovebolt circa 1953 used cast iron pistons (and splash
oiling). They went to aluminum pistons and pressure oiling in 1954
IIRC.

I change the oil in my Corvairs every 3,000 miles. I use Castrol GTX oil
and include a shot of ZDDP. I change the oil in my 1988 Volvo 240 every
3,000 miles (manufacturer suggests every 5,000) and have since I bought
it in November 1987. It now has 197,000 miles and has never been on a
tow truck or in a body shop. I change the oil in my wifes 2006 XC90
every 5,000 miles (manufacturer suggests every 7,500 miles) using Mobil
1 oil. On my customers cars I suggest changing the oil every 3,000 miles
IF the car has over 100,000 miles. But what I want to know is what
automotive engine uses cast iron pistons (as per the LA Times article)?
