Steve, everyone has their own ideas on this and very few agree with each 
other.  My guess is that it doesn't make much difference as long as you 
don't let it go too long.  Most owners don't drive their Corvair daily so 
one change a year with a quality oil is enough and the high priced 
synthetics arent warranted.  If racing, maybe they are.  Do what you feel 
comfortable with, the engines aren't fussy.
