FYI - further information about Congresswoman Giffords.
Seth,
Thanks for your SEMA membership and for sharing the background info. Rep.
Giffords is a true auto enthusiast and friend to our industry. She
operated the family tire dealership in Tucson before running for politics. El
Campo Tire was founded by her grandfather. She sold the business in 2000 to
Goodyear (citing how difficult it was for an small independent company to
compete against the national firms).
Rep. Giffords was elected to the Arizona House in 2000 and the Arizona
Senate in 2002. She was elected to the U.S. House in 2006. Not only is she a
member of the Congressional Caucus, she was an active member of our State
Caucus while in the Arizona legislature.
I knew she collected cars and motorcycles, and restored them as well, but
I didn’t know of her passion for Corvairs. Thanks for sharing that info.
I should also note that Rep. Giffords has attended the SEMA Show.
Thanks again.
