<VV> trans/diff separation

There is a gasket between them which sticks sometimes depending on whether
the last guy used "stickum" to seal it. Take a chisel and gently wedge it
between the surfaces. If you "dent" the face be sure to file it flat before
reassembling. This is an easy operation. Just wait until you try to remove
the side retainers to remove the ring gear case. You will invent new swear
words. I suggest taking a punch and marking the position of the retainers
so you can put them back to the same adjustment. Do not hammer on the teeth
to remove the retainers. You will break them. I use an old retainer with
holes drilled thru it for a round bar to gain leverage. Put it teeth to
teeth against the stuck one. I also have a holding jig bolted to my
workbench so you can bolt the diff in place while trying to unscrew the side
retainers. After years of rust they can be a PITA to remove. You need a
diff gasket kit to replace the big O-rings and stub axle side seals at
reassembly time.
Good luck, Clark Hartzel
