<VV> 25,000 mile oil change

Hi Randy,

Head temps typically run in the 275 to 325 degree area for me unless I'm
PUSHING it - and then can hit 450. When it goes above 450 I back off the
skinny pedal. I do not have an oil temp gauge on either Corvair - but at
least some of the oil is passing through that hot head, so it must be
getting pretty dang warm. This is one of the reasons I use synthetic since
it does not "coke" in the higher temp areas of the engine.

My '96 Blazer (water pumper) has about 150,000 and my '01 Blazer around
120,000. Both have lived on Mobil 1 - 10w30 since their first oil change.
But, those engines don't need the higher ZDP levels.

If you will look back a month or so on VV, you will see that I had a concern
about using synthetic oil which was specified as being for diesel engines.
I don't recall that I got a specific answer at the time. The conversation
went off into Accel oil at Wally World or some such. Well, I think I did
get a couple of responses saying that it should not be a problem and at
least one saying - don't do that. So, what do I do with that?

Anyway, I'm not trying to be a jerk about Amziol. Now called Amsoil? -
which seems like an unfortunate name for such a clean product.

If I read your message correctly, you are recommending oil designated for
diesel engines to be used in Corvairs. So, I will ask you specifically -
what problems could occur from using an oil recommended for diesel (no
spark) engines in an "relatively high heat" air cooled gasoline engine?

Telling me that a trucker went 400,000 on his diesel engine does not relate
(in my mind) to my Corvair requirements.

Later, JR
