Jack,
Thanks for the clarification... I also got a private reply from another member who described what happened... please DO post photos. I'll check out the two I have in my batch, and see if I can discern what happened.
Thanks again!
Lonzo

Lonzo,
this was the entire top ring assembly, not just the rubber seal. I'll
ost some pictures out there tomorrow. I went to Clark's website and
ooked at the exploded view of the filter. I'll look again tomorrow, but
think the upper ring is in that picture.

 Jack,
If you're talking about the rubber seal, I've had it happen on "name brand"
ilters on other vehicles... namely Cheryl's old Jeep ('96 Grand Cherokee 4.0L,
ong since gone) and my old truck ('82 F150 302 still running), and they get
got?) their oil changed on a regular basis... so I wouldn't let one episode as
uch spoil the batch.
I have 2 of the Clark's filters, yet to use them, because I run FL1A
otorcraft filters on my '64 700 (I've got one of the old "spin-on-filter
dapters" that I've had for almost 15 years, I think I got it from Ed
orson?)... along with quite a few PF4 filters...
Anyway, just saying, I wouldn't cast them off over that.
 Later,
 Lonzo

Not sure when I purchased this filter from Clarks, but the top ring was
eparated from the body of the filter when I removed it today. The
verall quality of the Clarks oil filter has been the subject of many
revious posts that I have read. Some have been very positive. Some not
o positive. I always wondered about this, since I have not had any
roblems, and have been running them on my car since 2006. I'll be
eeping this filter as a reminder (normally they get recycled along with
 he oil).
All that being said, I replaced it with a Wix today, and will not look back.
