Ray, I had the same problem with my 66. When the engine was warmed up, I took the air cleaner assembly off and with the engine off, goosed the throttle and saw only one carb squirting a jet of gas into the throat. I then bought a new pump (cost less than $10. at Clarks), disassembled and cleaned the carb with carb cleaner, then put it back with a new air horn gasket.

Still had the hesitation, so I assumed it was an air leak. Suction on that carb (right side) was poor, strong on the left carb. I then put on a new spacer and two new carb-to-intake gaskets sandwiched between the spacer, tightenend it up, and the car ran 1000 percent better. I also found my points were not adjusted to spec and fixed that as well.

I still have a bit of hesitation when the engine is warming up, but I'm sure when I clean the left side carb and put on new gaskets/spacer, it will run even better.

The previous owner just advanced the timing to some rediculous setting to eliminate the problem, and could have destroyed the engine if I hadn't gotten it when I did.

Good luck...Bill Hershkowitz 66 Monza Sport Sedan 110 PG A/C
