I suppose instead of "think" I shpuld have said that I "expected" a "Genuine
GM" photo to be more authentic.  

I'm not talking about customs, like Edsel Ford's 1923 (?) roadster at the LA
Auto Show, which are 'big boy toys' 

Plus, changing wheels and removing the crossbar in the grille are hardly
'design studies' IMHO, and barely qualify as a "custom car" either (at least
after high school).

Sure, Bill Mitchell's extended pearl pink 1961 Monza convertible was such a
car, but that was a custom, and I don't believe it was intended to be a
'design study' just something for his wife ?

You'd be wrong :-)  Go look at factory show cars today, plenty of
customization.

Do a little reading about Bill Mitchell in particular, his personal car is
at the GM Heritage Center.  I can assure you it's not a 'vanilla' car.
