While debating the real cost of electric cars, one other thing to consider.
While there is strong lobbying pro-electric cars. There are already politicians who are debating the demise of their revenue stream, the gasoline tax!
This has already come up regarding hybrids like the Prius. Where it has been said that at 50 miles per gallon of gas, they are not paying their fair share of highway tax. A true electric car gets out of paying that tax as well, at least for the time being. But if they ever become truely mainstream, you can bet the politicians will find a way fr them to pay their highway use taxes.
