MOST of the time they come apart ok by removing the bolt and washer, then  
put just the bolt back in most of the way and use a steering wheel puller 
(maybe  a small dose of blaster on splines). if it is too tight for this , 
warm the  flange with a torch. i hate seeing them all beat up.the worst one i 
had required  a muffler chisel with hammer head in it to the flat surface on 
the sides.
