Yes, a microsecond spent shifting adds to your ET or your lap time (ceteris
parabis), which is the micro-goal in that context?

Drag racers use PGs because most of them are bracket racing.  When bracket
racing consistency is the most important thing.  One shift by a PG is much
more consistent run to run than three shifts of a 4 speed.
