Most any diode as used in a power supply will work, not a small signal 
diode (1N914 not a good choice).

Minimum specs would be 50 piv (Vr, whatever) and .5 A.

But I would use one of those typical 4000 series, like a 1N4001 to 
1N4007, since they are so common. These are rated at 1 amp.

Yes, the diode keeps the buzzer from annoying you when the ignition is 
on, but not running, like during starting.
