<VV> broken crankshaft from towing

This is a real possibility!  Back in the day I happened to be following a 62 Corvair in tow on Vandyke, in Warren MI., As he rolled along the exhaust was puffing unburned fuel.  When he stopped for a traffic light the puffing stopped.  I came to realize what was happening so I managed to get along side [not easy in that heavy traffic] and pulled him over.  Sure enough the car was in gear with the ignition off.  The wrecker driver said the car seemed to be pulling 'a little hard.'
