<VV> broken crankshaft from towing

Now that is something that actually happened to me. Many, many years ago we
were towing my 63 VW 1500 with a 5 ton truck, full of our worldly
possessions. Our dog, a 200 lb. St. Bernard was in the car and (we presume)
leaned on the gear shift and slipped the car into first gear before we
pulled away from the gas fill up. At the next rest stop the engine bay
looked like somebody had dropped a grenade into it! The local VW mechanic
figured it was doing 10K plus RPM when it "let go"!

I am surprised nobody mentioned the obvious. The guy left the car in first
gear and the engine was going 12,000 RPM on the freeway! GRIN Clark Hartzel
