<VV> strage thing with my 66 Corsa

Ulli:
   had the same thing happen with my ex's 64 vert...
   Turned out to be the distributor power lead right at the restrainer,
    there was a break in the insulation.
   It got warmed, then shutdown.
   Took it out on the road cold, as soon as it shifted (vacuum advance moved),
	it shutdown...
   It was a real pain to locate.

Ulli,

You are saying first and second gear.  Is this manual or automatic
transmission?  Three speed, four speed or Power Glide (L&  D)?

If manual, does this happen as soon as you go to second gear?  Or, are you
driving around in second for some period of time?
