Back in the day, a diode was a lot pricier than they are today, relatively speaking, and cars weren't meant to last 40+ years! 4 years was a stretch!

A big thank you to everyone for the advice on the Monza clock diode install!
With the clock opened and connected a nice pretty green spark was very visable
each time the points released to wind the clock. With the diode shunted across
the coil windings: no visable spark.It's a shame that the clock wasn't built
that way to begin with, it really would have made them last a lot longer.Jim
