<VV> regulator questions clarification

I know the condenser on the regulator suppresses radio noise, but is it ok
to leave it off if I'm not worried about radio noise (i.e. I have no
working radio in the car)?

Also, is there a cheaper way to replace this if it is needed (Clark's is
about $15)?  Would a coil condenser work?
